The Cucumber Lake Unit is adjacent to the BWCAW and offers a
“Boundary Waters look and feel.” The area can be accessed by rivers
and lakes both inside and outside of the wilderness.
The Cucumber Lake Unit provides exceptional canoe opportunities.
There are 14 small lakes, known as the vegetable lakes, in the unit
– Bean, South Bean, Parsnip, Melon, Strawberry, Kraut, Turnip,
Squash, Peanut, Cucumber, Onion, Mauser, Jim, and Little Jim. These
lakes offer the potential to create new canoe routes.
The area’s rugged and rocky terrain is home to a variety of
wildlife, including beaver, wolf, moose, deer, and bald eagle.
