Eagle Mountain Unit

Approximate Acreage: 4,400
Percent Federal Ownership: 98%

The Eagle Mountain Unit lies adjacent to the BWCAW and southeast of Brule Lake. The area contains the Eagle Mountain trail, a popular and scenic hiking trail that accesses Eagle Mountain, Minnesota’s highest point.

Near Tomash Lake, the area contains some upland cedar, a forest type which is relatively rare in the Superior National Forest. Blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries are abundant. The area also serves as a buffer to the Cascade River, as well as part of Whale Creek.
