Meander Lake Unit

Approximate Acreage: 1,560
Percent Federal Ownership: 80%

The Meander Lake Unit lies adjacent to the BWCAW, north of the Echo Trail and northwest of Meander Lake. The Sioux Hustler hiking trail travels through the southwest corner of the area and enters the BWCAW at the unit’s western edge.

A portion of the Meander Lake Unit burned in the Little Indian Sioux fire of 1971, but the forest is regenerating. Birch, spruce, and poplar trees are common. Additionally, the area protects Clora Creek, which originates in the Meander Lake Unit and flows into the BWCAW.
